Review: Here Comes the Boom is plagued by all the clichés for sports films but at the same time it still delivers enough MMA and comedy for anyone to enjoy. The film delivers in bringing the world of MMA especially UFC onto the big screen, and even though the fights weren’t epic, it was still effective enough for your enjoyment. Kevin James has never been in better shape and he is at his usual comedic self with some good moments. Salma Hayek just did not fit in this film, her chemistry with Kevin did not feel genuine so the romantic aspect of the film faltered. The best characters were by Henry Winkler and Bas Rutten who both led the best comedy scenes in the film. The end of the film is wildly predictable since you seen it 100 times but it’s always good seeing the underdog win at the end. It’s great to see a film by Happy Madison Production that is not an over-the-top ridiculous comedy movie. Not a great film by any stretch but good enough for a family movie night.

Recommend? Depends. If you can’t find anything else to watch, then try it out.

Add To Your Collection? Nope. I watched it on demand, it’s no more than a rental.

Would You Watch It Again? Sure, someday when it’s on cable.

Blogger’s Thoughts

“While sort of cute, the movie is pretty predictable. I don’t think there is any reason to ever rewatch this movie, unless you have a preteen that likes barf jokes and people getting the crap beaten out of them in a funny way” – The Bishop Review

“It’s predictable, obvious, cliched, and tries a tad too hard to be funny, but Here Comes the Boom still seems to have plenty of fun with itself, it’s cast, and it’s story that comes off as more passionate and heartfelt than you would expect from your usual James vehicle.” – Dan The Man’s Movie Reviews

“I’m done.  Listen, “Here Comes the Boom” thinks you’re stupid. Dont prove it by going to see it.” – Fog’s Movie Reviews

  1. Yeah, I’m with you here. Worth a redbox rental. I’d guess people who spent $10 in the theater were kicking themselves.

  2. I gotta say it: I didn’t hate this movie as much as I expected to. It wasn’t perfect, but it wasn’t terrible either. Just right in the middle. Good review Issy.
