Synopsis: In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process. – Rotten Tomatoes

Review: Red 2 is an entertaining comedy/action flick but it follows pretty much the same formula from the first film. Of course, the best aspect of this film is the cast and this time around you get a couple of new additions with Anthony Hopkins, Byung-hun Lee and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Bruce is his usual self, Malkovich is the highlight of the film as the crazy Marvin. Helen Mirren and Bryan Cox are just as entertaining and Anthony Hopkins turned out to play a decent villain. The film gives you some good action scenes but nothing spectacular, and Byung-hun Lee was behind most of them. The comedy for the most part was on point and that is what kept the film entertaining. Red 2 doesn’t reinvent the comedy/action genre or even surpasses its predecessor but its a good enough film to keep you entertained.

Blogger’s Thoughts

“Light-hearted and fun, “Red 2″ has an abundance of amusing moments and is sure to entertain.” – Fogs’ Movie Reviews

“Red 2 feels like it’s trying way, way too hard to be like the first one in spots, but this time, with less action and more comedy, that not only isn’t funny, but is repetitive and gets old after about the first 20 minutes or so.” – Dan The Man’s Movie Reviews

“It is not better than the first, but it passes in being entertaining.” – The Focused Filmographer

  1. Can’t wait for this, I watched the first one today after seeing the trailer for the 2nd in the cinema, loved it! The second looks like good fun too :)
    Great review :D

  2. Yeah, I agree, this is definitely a comedy and not really much of an action movie. That said, I found it really funny, so I think it worked at what it was setting out to do. ;)

    Nice review Issy!
